01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Housed in a structure reminiscent of a traditional Japanese inn, Sanyu in Edogawa Ward's Nishi-Komatsugawa neighborhood offers a dedicated setting for enjoying fugu (blowfish). Guests dine in quiet, calm private rooms, making it a peaceful retreat for seasonal fare.

The centerpiece of the menu is the course, where dishes arrive sequentially starting with sashimi, followed by fragrant fugu karaage (deep-fried blowfish), dressed fugu skin, and delicate fugu aspic jelly. For parties of several diners, supplementing the standard course with separate orders of shirako (milt) or nakaochi allows for an engaging comparison across different cuts of the fish. Courses are paced comfortably, pairing naturally with fragrant hirezake (hot sake infused with charred fin) or cold beer.

The meal concludes with zosui, a soothing rice porridge deeply infused with the savory dashi broth of the fish. Attentive yet unpretentious hospitality rounds out the experience, making reservations particularly well suited for evening banquets or unhurried special dinners.
